Bloomington sits on karst limestone terrain, and Monroe County has been cited as having more than 400 caves. The Indiana Geological and Water Survey notes sinkholes are not a construction problem unless a structure sits on too steep a slope, and that a sinkhole filled in without the builder's knowledge is another risk.

Questions

Questions from Bloomington owners

Still have a question? Call or text (574) 361-4416, or send it with the form below.

01Do I need city approval to replace windows in a Bloomington historic district?

Inside one of the city's thirteen local historic districts, yes. Any change to the outside of the house goes to the city for review first. Check whether the address falls in a district before ordering anything.

02Can you look after a house owned by someone who lives out of town?

Yes. A full walk-through of the property, inside and out, to make sure everything is working. On a schedule, so nothing is left to assumption.

03Where does Bloomington's tap water come from?

Lake Monroe. City of Bloomington Utilities treats raw water drawn from the reservoir, which is the sole source of drinking water for more than 120,000 people in Monroe and Brown counties. The utility flags seasonal discolored water caused by naturally occurring manganese, which shows up first as stained fixtures and clogged aerators.

04Do you cover Lake Lemon and Lake Monroe as well as Bloomington?

Yes. Lake Monroe has a page of its own, and Lake Lemon is close to Bloomington.
