Why Monroe is not like the lakes up north
Under Indiana's group boat dock rule (312 IAC 8-4-3), a group dock on Monroe Lake serves at least six separate parcels and landowners and must be secured against changes in pool elevation.

Monroe Lake's normal pool is 538 feet above sea level, with its spillway at 556 feet, on a lake of 10,750 acres. Level changes between those marks shape how docks and shorelines are built and maintained.

01Can I build a private dock on Lake Monroe?
Ask the Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District. The Corps co-manages the lake, and whether a private structure is possible depends on the stretch of shore. We will not give a yes or no for a specific address without the Corps' answer.
02Is Lake Monroe drawn down in winter?
No. The Corps publishes a year-round target lake elevation of 538 feet, so Monroe does not run the seasonal winter pool that some other reservoirs do.
03Can you cover Bloomington as well as the lake?
Yes. Bloomington has a page of its own, and a house in town and a house on the water can both be on the same point of contact.
