Home care guides for Indiana homeowners
Written for houses in this climate, with the source for every figure printed at the foot of the page.
Freeze dates, humidity ranges, replacement intervals. All of it attributable.
Our guides
Guides built for this climate
These six guides cover home maintenance for houses in Indiana and southwest Michigan: what to do in each season, what a home watch visit covers, what a household manager does and what home management costs. Most maintenance writing tells you to blow out the irrigation in the fall without saying when fall ends, and to watch humidity without saying what number to watch it against. That is no use in Carmel and no use in Granger, which freeze about two weeks apart.
Every figure in these guides comes from somewhere you can check. The National Weather Service for freeze dates in central and northern Indiana. The Environmental Protection Agency on humidity and drying times. ENERGY STAR on filters. The American Red Cross on frozen pipe. The United States Fire Administration on alarm replacement. Purdue Extension on what an Indiana lawn actually needs.
Every one of those sources is linked at the foot of the guide that uses it. Nothing here asks to be taken on trust.
There is a second reason these pages exist. Of the nine home management and home watch firms in this market we could check, none publishes a price, and none of the Hamilton County operators publishes content with any local substance in it. You deserve better than a contact form before you hire anyone, so the working detail sits on these pages whether or not it ever ends in a phone call.

About these guides
Who writes these guides?
We do, from the work. Every figure carries the agency or university that publishes it in a reading list at the foot of the page, so any claim can be checked.
Why are the sources printed?
Because most writing in this field is reassurance. A freeze date, a humidity range or a replacement interval either comes from somewhere or it does not.
Can I use these without hiring ABODE?
Yes. They are written to be usable by a homeowner doing the work themselves. The service exists for people who would rather not.
